Whoa-B is a DJ from Chicago who plays grime and dubstep.

My dedication to electronic music began on the dance floor. Going to parties as the rave era (aka the nineties) came to a close I was turned on to the ecstatic vibes of house music. I also found myself drawn to the dark energy of drum & bass. But the thing that made me want to be a DJ was UK garage. It seemed to combine elements of house, drum & bass, hip hop, reggae, and r&b with eclectic perfection.

As I built up my record collection, I was also playing bass guitar in a heavy metal band, operating drum machine for a hip hop trio, and pursuing a college degree in audio recording. It wasn't until the UK garage sound I'd been following evolved into its MC-driven form known as grime that I got serious about my act. In 2004 I adopted the name Whoa-B and became a member of the Brut Force Family, joining Sushi, Nogunri, and J Courage in an effort to make sure UK garage, grime, and dubstep are represented in Chicago and the US.

Since then I've had the opportunity to play Betty's Blue Star Lounge, Cafe Lura, Lava, and Sonotheque, to name a few. Notable works of mine include Welcome To Grimerock and the somewhat-viral Dubstep Quickmix video. Both exemplify the high standard I hold myself to when it comes to selection and mixing skill. Looking forward, I'd like to incorporate my own productions into live sets and hope to book more out of town gigs. I will also always look forward to sharing my sound with appreciative heads everywhere.
